50th Anniversary of Assumption House and Les Oiseaux Convent School Closing and the Abbey School's New Start in Westgate.
We are holding a lunch at our former school premises in 125 Canterbury Road, Westgate on Saturday 24th September 2022 to commemorate events of half a century ago to which we invite all OA's and Alumni of Les Oiseaux, Ursuline and La Sainte Union Convent Schools to celebrate and commemorate these events together.
50 years ago, in 1972 both Les Oiseaux Convent School and Assumption House Prep School closed their doors for the last time. St. Augustine's Abbey School took the place of Assumption House in Westgate, filling the vacancy left by Les Oiseaux. The event is sure to provide the opportunity to share the many stories we have of our time at school and with our sister schools where many OA relatives attended. Les Oiseaux students shared their last year with us 50 years ago and from 1971, our school shared some classes with the Ursuline students. La Sainte Union Convent School in Herne Bay was a co-educational school up until the age of 11 and was one of the feeder schools to St. Augustine's College.
The Itinerary for this Celebration is as follows:
11.00am Arrival and coffee in what was the Refectory
11.15am Tour of former Les Oiseaux and St. Augustine's College and historic Chapel
12 noon Special celebratory Mass - offered to all our former teachers and pupils no longer with us, with special reference to those who have died in the last 12 months
12.45pm Welcome Reception drinks in the Refectory
1.30pm Formal Welcome followed by Three Course lunch with Menu Choices and Vegetarian options
3.00pm Guest Speaker (TBC) followed by awards to retired St. Augustine's staff for outstanding service to the school. Vote of thanks followed by Toast
3.30pm End of Formalities and School Song and chance to mix - bar will remain open
4.30pm Close
Tickets are £45.00 each, which includes tea/coffee on arrival; a guided tour of the former College and Chapel; a Three- Course lunch with Wine and pre-lunch reception drink.
